Press Review: Tuesday 31/07/2018 - Cardinal Tumi's All Anglophone Conference III continues to make news!

Image
NEWSPAPER HEADLINES Summary About five died in Buea yesterday after gunshots were heard in the Bakweri Town neighbourhood. The truth behind these deaths is yet to be fully unraveled.  Cardinal Tumi's planned AAC III coming after AAC I on April 2-3 1993 in Buea and AAC II on April 29th -  May 1994 in Bamenda, is the talk of the day in all TV debates and almost all papers have it on their front page. The bone of contention is the precondition the Cardinal, Synod Clerk of PCC and the Imams of Buea and Bamenda gave for the conference to hold. That is the release of all detainees and a total withdrawal of troops from the anglophone regions. Cameroon Tribune of today rubbishes these requests. Mayor EKEMA swears such a conference would not hold in his municipality even if the Head of State were to authorize it. He is today Tuesday leading a "Peace March" to denounce the capture and killing of chiefs and to call for the release of all those still in detention. SDF presid...

Memorial of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Priest Reading 1 JER 14:17-22 Let my eyes stream with tears day and night, without rest, Over the great destruction which overwhelms the virgin daughter of my people, over her incurable wound. If I walk out into the field, look! those slain by the sword; If I enter the city, look! those consumed by hunger. Even the prophet and the priest forage in a land they know not. Have you cast Judah off completely? Is Zion loathsome to you? Why have you struck us a blow that cannot be healed? We wait for peace, to no avail; for a time of healing, but terror comes instead. We recognize, O LORD, our wickedness, the guilt of our fathers; that we have sinned against you. For your name's sake spurn us not, disgrace not the throne of your glory; remember your covenant with us, and break it not. Among the nations' idols is there any that gives rain? Or can the mere heavens send showers? Is it not you alone, O LORD, our God, ...

Press Review of Monday July 30th, 2018 - Chief Mbanda Njie of Buea assassinated!

Image
NEWSPAPER HEADLINES Summary Among the 8 captured fako chiefs was Chief Mbanda Njie. He was assassinated over the weekend and explanations are still being sought as to why he was murdered. Ndop prison was attacked by assailants over the weekend. Result: 163 prisoners freed and the entire building set on fire. Cardinal Tumi's ANGLOPHONE CONFERENCE slated for August this year sparks controversies as even MINCOM sees it as uncalled for. Others question the credibility of such an action by the emeritus clergyman.  MINCOM says the prerequisites outlined by the Cardinal concerning a cease fire and the liberation of all prisoners cannot be granted. Monday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time Reading 1 JER 13:1-11 The LORD said to me: Go buy yourself a linen loincloth; wear it on your loins, but do not put it in water. I bought the loincloth, as the LORD commanded, and put it on. A second time the word of the LORD came to me thus: Take the loincloth which you bought and are wearing, and go now to the Parath; there hide it in a cleft of the rock. Obedient to the LORD's command, I went to the Parath and buried the loincloth. After a long interval, the LORD said to me: Go now to the Parath and fetch the loincloth which I told you to hide there. Again I went to the Parath, sought out and took the loincloth from the place where I had hid it. But it was rotted, good for nothing! Then the message came to me from the LORD: Thus says the LORD: So also I will allow the pride of Judah to rot, the great pride of Jerusalem. This wicked people who refuse to obey my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their ...

Feast of Saint James, Apostle Reading 1: 2 COR 4:7-15 Brothers and sisters: We hold this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us. We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being given up to death for the sake of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you. Since, then, we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, I believed, therefore I spoke, we too believe and therefore speak, knowing that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and place us with you in his presence. Everything indeed is for you, so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more an...

Tuesday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time Reading 1: MI 7:14-15, 18-20 Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your inheritance, That dwells apart in a woodland, in the midst of Carmel. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old; As in the days when you came from the land of Egypt, show us wonderful signs. Who is there like you, the God who removes guilt and pardons sin for the remnant of his inheritance; Who does not persist in anger forever, but delights rather in clemency, And will again have compassion on us, treading underfoot our guilt? You will cast into the depths of the sea all our sins; You will show faithfulness to Jacob, and grace to Abraham, As you have sworn to our fathers from days of old. Responsorial Psalm: PS 85:2-4, 5-6, 7-8 R. (8a) Lord, show us your mercy and love. You have favored, O LORD, your land; you have brought back the captives of Jacob. You have forgiven the guilt of your people; you have cov...

Press Review of Monday July 23, 2018 - October 7 elections: Opposing the opposition!

Image
NEWSPAPER HEADLINES WITH COMMENTS SUMMARY Screening of presidential candidates' files has begun at ELECAM. In 10 days, the list of qualified  candidates with regular files will be published after which those with grievances can then file them to the constitutional council which will rule on all such cases. Twenty (20) "Opposition" parties rally behind Mr. Biya. In the words of some of their chairmen, "We have tried hard in the previous years to beat him but we just can't. It is thus better to support him". Others say they would support him now so that after the elections they can together form a reconciliation government to restore peace and unity. While one faction of UPC led by Hon. Bapooh Lipot stands behind the CPDM, another faction represented by Habiba Issa Duala has deposited a candidature file at ELECAM. MINAT had earlier announced that only Hon. Bapooh Lipot could represent the party. Kah Wahla too sidelined in the CPP by MINAT's communi...
